Detailing your vehicle can be a relaxing experience, but that delight can quickly turn to anger if you spill motor oil on your paint. Although it's not going to damage the finish if it's quickly cleaned up, it's often difficult to get the oil off of the paint and cleaned up completely. But if you follow the proper steps, you can remove the motor oil from your paint in about 45 minutes.
Instructions
1. Wipe up any oil that's left on the paint using the shop rags. Get as much motor oil off of the vehicle as possible, giving you just a film of oil to deal with.
2. Spray the automotive cleaner/degreaser onto the vehicle and wipe it off using one of the microfiber towels. This should break down the oil substantially and get the film off of the vehicle. Frequently turn the microfiber towel so that you're always washing with a clean surface.
3. Apply the automotive detailing spray to the paint surface.
4. Clean off the detailing spray using a clean microfiber towel, working it in a circular pattern and frequently turning the towel so you always have a clean surface.
5. Look down the side of the vehicle at a steep angle, looking for reflections in the paint. If the area that had oil spilled on it appears the same as the rest of the paint, then the job is complete. If the reflection distorts or looks odd, then repeat the cleaning process again. The oil is distorting the reflection and isn't completely off yet.
