Owl Art Gifts

Search local thrift stores for owl-themed ceramics.

In 2010 and 2011, animals became all the rage in interior design and fashion. A few animals in particular boomed in popularity, like birds. Owls in particular seem to appeal to people, even when "owl crazes" wane. If you are artsy, you can create your own owl art gifts using your own hands and some found objects and supplies. If you don't want to rely on your own crafty skills, you can always find an piece done by an artisan.

Owl Wall Art

Give your loved one a wise feathered friend to grace his walls. Look for vintage sketches or paintings of owls at thrift stores, flea markets or estate sales. You can also search online marketplaces like Craigslist and eBay for the handmade piece with the perfect touch. Make your own owl collage using felt, paper or fabric scraps or other media. Frame or matte it for a lovely wall hanging. For a shabby, playful piece, attach owl postcards, illustrations or photographs onto a string with clothespins. Gently stack the photos in a gift box so that they'll stay attached to the string. Your recipient can place them at his work desk or under his kitchen windowsill for a bit of cheer.

Owl Accessories

If your recipient can't do without accessories, give her owl-themed jewelry and goodies. Dangly owl earrings or a bejeweled owl pendant crafted by a local artisan -- or yourself -- make wonderful accessories and keepsakes. You can also piece or sew scrap leather together into an owl and adhere it to a thrift store purse. Whether your choose a vintage style or more modern design depends on your recipient's tastes and how much hunting you want to do. If you're looking for a gift for a man, a leather wallet tooled with an owl design makes an appropriate and one-of-a-kind gift.

Wearable Owl Art

Give an artsy owl gift for your fashionista friend or family member. Look for an image of an owl or owl scene that you think he'll like. Print that image onto an iron-on transfer, and search for a tee in a complementary color. Print a large owl image, or make it smaller and place it on a shirt pocket, or add your own whimsical text. You can do the same with other clothing pieces, a jacket or a dress, and you can even knit or crochet a winter hat in the shape of an owl or knit miniature owls to sew onto a pair of ballet flats. Embroidery also adds a dainty touch.

Owl Home Accents

If your owl art gift is for a housewarming party or going-away gift, a home accent piece may be just the thing. Put your knitting, crochet or embroidery skills to work. Knit an owl to sew onto a pair of accent pillows, or paint the image of an owl onto a ceramic or glass lamp or a planter. Look for owl-themed fabric, and cover a lampshade or picture frame with it. If you don't knit, crochet or paint, glue together a simple owl using a drawing or photograph as a guide. Its childlike playfulness will add charm to your recipient's home, and she may have a nursery or playroom it works well in.
