Lady Luck Costume Ideas

Incorporate lucky symbols into your costume, such as a royal flush.

Lady Luck is a symbol of wealth, prosperity and good fortune, which makes it difficult to create a fitting costume. There is no right way to make a Lady Luck costume as the character is merely conceptual and can look like anything you wish. However, there are a few basics that every Lady Luck costume should have so you do not run the chance of being unrecognizable.

Start with the Basics

Raid the back of your closet or your local resale shop for clothing to make the basis of your Lady Luck costume. To start you need either a long evening gown, if you want to go for a glamorous look, or a short miniskirt, if you want to look sexy and flirty instead. Make sure the dress is green, to match the color of money and to simulate the look of a casino table. If you cannot find green, then red or black, the color of playing card suits, will do. Finish the costume with a pair of matching high heels.

Adding Details

You will not look much like Lady Luck unless you add some details to your costume. Create a charm bracelet or necklace featuring symbols of good luck such as a rabbit's foot, a pair of dice, a four-leaf clover and a horseshoe. Lady Luck is often associated with money, so buy a costume feather boa made from fake dollar bills or fashion your own using string and play money. Use household items to create a casino table to wear around your waist with winning card hands and casino chips glued onto it.

Hair and Makeup

Your Lady Luck costume will not be complete without appropriate hair and makeup. Style your hair like a Las Vegas showgirl with a feathered hairpiece and bouncy curls, or wear your hair tied up in a fancy clip to look like a high roller. Do your makeup like you are going out to a fancy casino and need to look your best or use makeup pencils to draw good symbols on your face, such as playing card suits or dollar signs.

Other Ideas

Lady Luck is a concept, not a character, so feel free to experiment with your own style to create a costume that works for you. Celebrate the luck of the Irish with a St. Patrick's Day inspired, all-green Lady Luck costume, complete with shamrocks and a pot of gold. In Greek mythology, luck was ruled a goddess called Fortuna, so pay homage to the original Lady Luck by wearing a toga and sandals. A Lady Luck costume pairs well with a men's high roller costume so get the guy in your life to play along.
