November is a month that is full of activities and themes. To teach preschool children about the events that occur during November, you can have them do art projects. There are many simple, inexpensive art projects suitable for preschoolers that reflect the month of November.
Good Nutrition Month Posters
Since November is Good Nutrition Month nationwide, it presents a good opportunity to introduce preschoolers to the concept of healthful eating. For this activity, you will need a piece of paper for each child, as well as materials to draw or paint pictures, such as markers, crayons, or finger paint.
Instruct each child to make a poster featuring drawings of their favorite healthy foods. After their posters are completed, have each child present their art to the group and talk about what healthy foods they like. If it ties into your lesson plans, you can also discuss the food groups into which their favorites belong.
November Mural
To make a November mural, you will need a large piece of poster paper. Give each child a lunch-sized, white paper plate and finger paint. Ask them to think of their favorite thing that deals with the month of November, whether it's pumpkins or piles of leaves, and paint it on the plate. After the plates are dry, label each one with the name of the child who made it, and attach them to the poster paper with strong tape. Alternatively, you can staple the plates to the poster paper.
Turkey Hands
There are several crafts that preschoolers can do for Thanksgiving, which is the most prominent holiday in November. One of the easiest crafts that young children enjoy during this time is making turkey hands. To do this art project, cut out paper feathers from various pieces of colored construction paper. Provide each child with a piece of brown or tan construction paper and five to seven paper feathers. Help the children trace their hands onto the brown paper, and then glue the feathers to the hand shape to make a turkey. If you prefer, they can cut out the hand shapes with safety scissors before gluing on the feathers.
