Use feathers to create a one-of-a-kind headpiece for your big day.
Fascinators are ornamental headpieces typically made of beads, feathers, jewels and other craft materials. For a wedding, fascinators are a stylish alternative to traditional veils and tiaras. If you want to take a hands-on approach to your bridal headdress, consider making your own feather fascinator. Often worn in royal weddings, these will add a touch of glam and drama to your wedding. Making your own fascinator ensures that your wedding style will stand out from everyone else's.
Instructions
1. Sketch the design for your fascinator. It can be as simple as a feathered headband, or as elaborate as a tall headpiece complete with lace and beads. Also determine how you are going to wear the fascinator. It could be a headband, hair clip, comb or hair elastic.
2. Cut your fabric pieces according to your design. Interfacing will serve as the base of the fascinator. Cut the interfacing and organza to the same size and shape. Iron the interfacing to the fabric. Cut out any decorative pieces, such as mesh, lace or ribbon, so that they are ready to apply.
3. Attach the back of the interfacing to your chosen hair clip, headband or elastic. Secure the fabric with a needle and thread. Another easy and strong option is hot glue. Use only small beads of glue so that the glue doesn't show through the organza.
4. Arrange the feathers on your fascinator as desired. Lay them flat along the organza and glue in place with small beads of hot glue. For feathers that stand tall against the head, use an awl to poke holes in the organza and slide the feathers in place. Use glue or thread along the base to support the weight of the feather.
5. Accent the fascinator with beads and more feather pieces. For a bridal fascinator, use mesh material as an alternative veil. Attach the beads and any material with hot glue according to your sketched design.
