Move quickly to get period stains out of your mattress.
The arrival of your period can be unpredictable. No matter how well-prepared you are, accidents happen and blood stains from your period can end up on your mattress. Because mattresses can be damaged by excessive moisture it's important to remove the period stains promptly and carefully. You can use household supplies to isolate the blood stain and draw it out of your mattress. Since period stains can accidentally occur from time to time, it's helpful to have a few stain-removing tricks up your sleeve.
Instructions
1. Cover the blood stain on your mattress with meat tenderizer. Allow the meat tenderizer to sit on the stain for at least 20 minutes to isolate and absorb the blood. Brush the meat tenderizer off, into the trash.
2. Throw away old towels after removing period stains.
Dampen an old towel with hydrogen peroxide. Dab at the remaining blood stain from the outside of the stain, working your way in toward the center. Move to a clean portion of the cloth as the blood stain is lifted and continue to sponge to remove as much as possible.
3. Stir 1 tbsp. dish washing detergent into 2 cups cool water to make a frothy soap solution. Dip another clean cloth only in the soap suds. Use the soap bubbles to sponge the rest of the blood stain from your mattress.
4. Dry your mattress quickly with the aid of a fan or space heater.
Press dry towels into your mattress to remove as much moisture as possible. Turn on an electric fan and direct the air flow toward your mattress to dry it faster.
