Common Asian Hair styles

Many consider the Asia the gateway for new phases in popular culture throughout the world. Technology, fashion and even hairstyles often become popular and commonplace in Japan and other Asian countries before they reach the United States or Europe. Asian hairstyles, for example, are increasingly becoming more popular in western culture.

Asian Hairstyles for Women

For a traditional approach to Asian styling of short hair, cut the hair to a uniform length all around. Usually the hair will reach to just below the ears; bangs are often included in this type of hair design. The hair can also be cut at an angle in the front, and the bangs swept aside instead of cut straight across to help to keep hair out of the way.

For something different in the realm of short hair design, consider an architectural approach for you hair. Architectural hairstyles are often shaped carefully, with different lengths providing a variety and life to the hairstyle. Architectural hairstyles are usually short in the back, sometimes resembling common cropped male haircuts. The hair tends to get longer as you progress to the front of the head, and the architectural style will often include bangs. Because the hair is so short, it is generally easy to manage, making the architectural approach an increasingly common hairstyle.

For medium length hair, using a razor to thin and feather out a hairstyle can add volume and life to your look. The razored ends of the hair will often add a flip or curl to the style, giving more personality to the hairstyle.

The most common style for longer hair is to layer the style, making it longer in some places than in others. Layering also helps the hair to frame the face, often highlighting beautiful features on a woman such as her eyes and lips.

Remember that traditionally, Asian hair is black in color. Many people looking for a new style will add coloring to make hair stand out. Highlights of red or blonde can infuse subtle tones and changes into hair; some will choose to use pink or blue dye to make an even bolder statement. Color will add a new dimension to your hair style and say a lot about your personality.

Asian Hairstyles for Men

Traditionally, Asian men have thick, straight, black hair. It will also tend to absorb more moisture and so hold styles better than thinner hair would. Because this type of hair holds style so well, it's easy to give life and texture to the hair. Applying a touch of mousse or other such product and simply fluffing the hair will add volume and texture. For an approach that will make more of a statement, work short hair into spikes with product; again, it will hold well for a long time.

For slightly longer hair, a messy look will add more of an attitude to your look. If you want to grow your hair longer, layering is a good option for you as well; the hair will flip or fluff out at the ends, adding volume and personality.
