Suggestions For Creating A Grownup Tinkerbell Costume

Disney's Tinker Bell

Tinker Bell is a playful, mischievous and free-spirited character from author J.M. Barrie's Neverland. Designing a Tinker Bell costume isn't too difficult, since your body is the basic template of the iconic Disney cartoon character.

Dress

Find a bright- or mint-green sweetheart tube minidress and cut a jagged line for the skirt. Tinker Bell usually wore a sweetheart tube top, but if this isn't a look with which you're comfortable, find a shape that works with your body, such as a halter or tunic. The length should be well above the knee, since Tinker Bell wears a miniskirt. You can also find a dress that is tight at the waist with a skirt that flares. If your skirt isn't cut in a staggered fashion, do this yourself. If you're creating the dress yourself, use green lycra or satin stretch material. Glue rhinestones onto the dress for that extra magical twinkle.

Shoes and Accessories

For a Tinker Bell costume, wings are the most important accessory. Create your own wings with wire and lace or nylon material. You can also purchase clear wings at a costume store.

Tinker Bell typically wears green flats or ballet slippers with a poof ball at the end. Since green flats generally are uncommon, find white shoes that can be dyed green. If you're not fond of flats, especially with a short skirt, get green pumps or opt for clear high heels. Glue fuzzy maribou feathers or green fuzzy craft balls at the tips of the shoes.

Get a gold wand with a star at the end of it. Make your own wand by finding or purchasing a wooden stick, spraying it with gold spray paint and designing a star. Carry a pouch filled with fine glitter to sprinkle around.

To complete the look, wear your hair up in a high bun and tie a blue silk bow in your hair. If you don't have blond hair and blue eyes, you can get a wig and colored contacts.
