Adornments To Create Children's Cowboy Party

Thrill your little wrangler with a cowboy-themed party.

Cowboy-themed parties are a hit with kids, but the cost of matching decorations may not be so popular with parents on a budget. Homemade cowboy party decorations are less costly. Combine a few supplies from the craft store with items you may already have around the house to transform your party space into the Old West. Use the money you saved to purchase necessities such as party food and cowboy hats.

Cowboy Cutouts

Cut images of cowboy hats and boots from the pages of a western-themed coloring book. Trace the outlines of the images onto card stock. Paint, color or decorate the cutouts with items such as stickers and fabric glitter. Attach a length of rope to each cutout and hang from the ceiling.

Bandanna Banner

Overlap bandannas over a length of rope to create a cowboy-themed, flag-style banner. Drape the bandannas over the rope so that they hang in a triangle shape, with the point facing down. Use double-sided tape or a glue gun to secure the bandannas to the rope. Drape the banner over the entryway or party table.

Old West Buildings

Turn appliance boxes into Old West-style buildings such as a bank, saloon and jailhouse. Remove the flaps from the box tops and turn the boxes upside down. Cut out the door and windows. Paint the buildings with craft paint and allow them to dry. Paint the names of the buildings on the discarded box flaps. Hang them above the doors.

Wanted Posters

When guests respond to the party, request that they email a recent photo. Use a photo-editing program to give the images an aged appearance or turn them black and white. Print the photos and attach them to the center of poster boards that have been painted to look like Old West wanted posters. Write a villainous name such as Dastardly Dan or Rattlesnake Rick beneath each image, along with a funny crime he committed. Ideas for crimes include feeding his broccoli to the dog or hijacking the school bus.

Table Settings

Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to trace and cut sheriffs stars out of cardboard. Wrap the stars with aluminum foil. Use a black marker to write the names of guests on the stars. Place one at each table setting to serve as a decorative place card. Purchase a sheet of denim from a fabric store or collect old denim clothing from around the house. Cut squares from the fabric to use as place mats and napkins. Purchase foam cowboy hats from the craft store. Use embellishments such as glitter, rhinestones, beads and feathers to decorate the hats. Turn them upside down and fill with chips or party mix. Use cookie cutters to make cowboy hat, cowboy boot and sheriff's star-shaped cookies. Decorate the cookies with frosting and arrange them on a tiered centerpiece platter.
