Decorate Hats For That Red-colored Hat Society

Add some red feathers to your hat to give it some flair.

The Red Hat Society is a social club for women over the age of 50. The only rule of the club is that there are no rules, so Red Hat Society meetings can range from elaborately staged events to simple gatherings for tea and dessert. Women in the Red Hat Society enjoy wearing the colors of deep red and purple, and they especially enjoy creating distinctive and sometimes outlandish red hats to wear to their club meetings and outings.

Instructions

Decorate Hats for the Red Hat Society

1. Purchase a hat. Straw hats are the most versatile and the easiest to decorate. Use floral spray paint to paint the hat a beautiful, glossy red. Or buy a red hat.

2. Add a ribbon. Choose a ribbon in a pattern you like that includes the color red. Wrap it around the hat and tie it in a jaunty bow. For an even more dramatic look, use hot glue to attach decorative items to the ribbon such as sequins or beads.

3. Attach flowers and other accessories. Purple and red silk flowers and feathers are a popular choice. Use red pipe cleaners to attach the objects. Poke each end of the pipe cleaner through the hat and secure underneath the hat. This way, you don't have to hot glue anything and you can change the decorations as you wish. If your hat is not straw, however, you will have to attach the items with hot glue, straight pins or sew them on.

4. Finish by adding a bit of sexy netting. Let it drape down over your eyes to give your face a mysterious and seductive look.
