Create A Small Dreamcatcher

Start sleeping soundly by hanging your own homemade mini dream catcher.

According to American Indian legend, dream catchers are handmade objects which allow only good dreams to enter a person's mind. Dream catchers originated from the Ojibwa Nation of North America during the 1960s and 1970s. The Ojibwa believed that good dreams would filter through the dream catcher and slide down the feathers onto the sleeping person, while bad dreams remained caught in the web.

Instructions

1. Cut a 60-inch length of hemp string or yarn and tie one end to the hoop. Begin wrapping the string loosely all around the perimeter of the hoop. Once you have made one revolution, cut the string and tie to the other end.

2. Weave the remaining string through the loose loops around the hoop. Periodically string on beads onto your loops. Continue weaving around the inside of the hoop until the area of the hoop is completely netted with string and beads.

3. String a bead in the center loop of the dream catcher. This is the part that actually "catches" bad dream.s Use a needle if weaving with your fingers is cumbersome. Tie the end of the string to a nearby loop to secure into place.

4. Glue feathers or ribbons to the bottom of the ring so that they hang. Push beads onto the ends of the feathers and secure with glue.
