Create A Peacock Bouquet

Peacock feathers add touches of bold color to your bouquet creations.

Colorful peacock feathers add accent in place of foliage or alongside foliage in a myriad of bouquet creations. Knowing make your own peacock bouquet gives you the ability to harness the iridescent colors displayed by the bold plumage, and it allows you to match your bouquet with exotic-colored outfits and jewelry choices as well. Making a peacock bouquet serves as an enjoyable floral craft one could complete for any occasion.

Instructions

1. Select a dozen assorted flowers that accentuate the colors of a peacock feather. Violets, blue snapdragons, orchids, daisies and essentially any type of flower can look attractive with these feathers. Bundle your choice of flowers in your fist, arranged in a pattern you desire.

2. Snap a rubber band around the center of the stem bundle. Snip the bottom inch of the stems in a straight edge for a more pleasing and symmetrical look.

3. Select six peacock feathers that display the "eye" of each feather as vibrantly as possible. Make sure each feather measures as long as your bouquet. If they're longer, use scissors to shorten the quills. Arrange the peacock feathers of your choosing around the blossoms of the bouquet, creating a sort of "bed" of feathers to replace foliage in the bouquet.

4. Wrap the stems, together with the quills of the feathers, with a long length of florist's tape. For a 12-inch-long bouquet, use 24 to 36 inches of floral tape to adequately wrap the stems and quills together.

5. Tie a length of silk ribbon into a simple bow around the upper part of the bouquet, just beneath the flowering head. Use a 24- to 36-inch length of ribbon to allow the tendrils to dangle femininely. Select a color of ribbon that corresponds with the colors found in a peacock feather -- i.e. teal, gold, blue, black, purple and brown, among others.
