Bird feathers
add color to your centerpiece.
Some of the most beautiful items to use on a centerpiece are not flowers, but feathers. Nature has painted some birds' feathers with hues of blue, green, chocolate brown and beige. These feathers add a decorative element in your centerpiece that flowers and other items won't create. However, when you combine them with some of the traditional items found on centerpieces, the effects can be quite lovely.
Instructions
1. Fill the glass cylinder vase with glass marbles so the bottom quarter of the vase is filled.
2. Insert a tapered candle in the marbles. Choose a candle in a color that matches one of the colors of the feathers, such as blue, brown or green, or select one of the fatter candles that has peacock feathers embedded in the wax.
3. Add more marbles around the candle until it can stand up without you holding onto it. Make the wick even with the top of the glass. If the vase is wide --- at least 10 inches --- fill it with two or three tapered candles, and vary their height.
4. Place the vase in the middle of the craft foam ring.
5. Set the ring and the vase in a wooden bowl. One with a shallow lip works best.
6. Insert the bird feathers, pencil cattails, baby's breath, pussy willow branches and dried berries into the ring. Choose bird feathers such as those from a peacock, pheasant and mallard duck. Completely cover the ring, putting the tallest items in the center of the ring near the glass vase.
7. Fill the bowl with dried pomegranates, slices of dried oranges, acorns and chestnuts.
