Create A Midna Costume

Midna is a character from the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Midna helps you throughout the game with hints and other tasks. You can create Midna's human costume at home using simple crafting supplies. You can wear your replica of the Midna costume to gaming parties or events, Halloween or even just to impress your friends on nights of playing Twilight Princess.

Instructions

1. Use painter's tape on the white body suit to outline the design of Midna. Look at the pictures of Midna under the Resources link so that you can see the design of Midna's body. Align the painter's tape in the appropriate places on the body suit. Cover the areas that you do not want painted with a towel.

2. Spray the black base paint first onto the body suit.

3. Spray the arms from the elbow down in blue paint. Cut strips of painter's tape and affix to the arms in a maze-like pattern. Afterward, spray the arm of the body suit to the elbow with black paint. Allow the paint to dry and remove the painter's tape. You will have a blue maze-like design on black.

4. Repeat the same method for the lower right leg from the calf down to the base of your foot.

5. Paint blue maze-like designs with a paint brush on the left thigh below the hip bone and before the knee cap. Also paint a blue maze-like design on the lower back.

6. Fold the top two inches of a large square black cloth about three to four feet in length over and sew it. Afterward, run a piece of elastic string through the sewn area to make a drawstring.

7. Paint large circular and maze-like designs on the cloth in light blue paint. The skirt is then tied around your waist and secured.

8. Practice making a cloak design using black construction paper and a doll. Make a cloak out of a black cloth and an inner blue fabric layer. Lay down on the black cloth to determine the size of the cloak needed and cut the cloth in a cloak shape. Cut a blue cloth fabric the same shape as the cloak, only an inch smaller in diameter. Sew the blue cloth fabric into the inside of the black cloth by sewing the edges of the blue cloth. Fold the two top corners down to form an angle. Mark the lines for your sleeves by drawing a line from your head to a bit past your shoulder blade. Cut the edges of the sleeves and sew them together to make the sleeves of the cloak. Consult a picture of Midna for an appropriate design to cut out. Align the inside with a blue cloth the same size as the outer black cloth by sewing the cloth in to the inside edges.

9. Consult a picture of Midna's back design on the cloak and draw or paint the design accordingly onto the back of the black cloth using silver paint.

10. Attach a clasp on either side of the cloak and a string with a clasp. When you put the cloak on, attach the string to the clasp on the other side of the cloak to secure the cloak. This prevents the cloak from covering the middle of the body suit and the designs.

11. Make the hood by folding two black cloth ends together to make a triangle hood and sew together. Draw a maze-like design on the front of the hood with silver paint.

12. Sew cuffs around the cloak arm edges by laying a light blue cloth fabric on the outside of the cloak and sewing the cloth on the edges around the sleeves' end.

13. Wear an orange wig for Midna's hair and wear the orange hair through a grey rounded hair clip making a dual ponytail that comes around and rests on your chest.

14. Make the headpiece out of wooden rod pieces available at crafts stores and sculpting clay. Consult a picture of Midna's headpiece design and sculpt the headpiece accordingly using wooden rod pieces and sculpting clay. You can lay your sculpting clay on the design to help you mold it to the shape of Midna's headpiece. Spray the piece with gold spray paint and attach to a gold chain.

15. Wear a gold head band with a maze like design over the orange wig. Attach wire hanger pieces on either side of the head band and paint gold. Attach them by using tape and wrapping around the headband. These will hold the gold chain design you made earlier. Allow the chain to rest on your forehead.

16. Cut out large arched-shaped eyebrows that have a straight edge that comes down your nose a quarter inch from black construction paper and affix to your eyebrows with tape. Wear a soft white and blue shade of make up with glitter. Wear black eyeliner around your eyes. Wear a light shade of purple lipstick or lip gloss and light purple gloves.
