Download The Library From An Ipod device To Some Computer

Music enthusiasts can transfer music libraries from an iPod to a computer.

The iPod is a device that allows music enthusiasts to carry their music with them and negates the need to change cassette tapes or CDs. The iPod also features large storage capabilities and is small enough to fit into a pocket. Music stored on a computer can be copied to the iPod and vice versa, which adds versatility in music listening and provides a convenient way to back up or transfer music when upgrading a computer system or experiencing computer problems.

Instructions

Transferring To a PC

1. Adjust Windows settings so that hidden files are displayed. Left-click on the "Start Menu" icon to open the "Start Menu." Type "Folder Options" into the search bar, and click on the "Search" icon. Click on "View." Locate the "Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives" option, and click on the bubble next to it. Click "OK," and close the window.

2. Right-click on the desktop, and choose the "New Folder" option to create a new folder on the desktop. Type in a name for the folder.

3. Plug the iPod into the computer with the sync cable.

4. Click on "Start Menu," then on "Computer." The iPod is listed in the "Computer" folder as its own drive. Double-click on the iPod drive. Click on "iPod_Control," and then click on "Music."

5. Select all of the folders in the "Music" folder and drag them to the folder you created on your desktop. Open the folder you created to view your copied music. You will see your music listed, although the file names will be scrambled. Don't worry about the names just yet.

6. Click on the "Start Menu," then click on the "iTunes" folder. Clickon the program application to open iTunes.

7. Click on "Edit," and then click "Preferences" once the iTunes program opens. Click on "Advanced" and "General." Place a check on the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" button. Click "OK," and close the "Preferences" window.

8. Click on "File," then "Add Folder to Library" in the iTunes program. Select the created folder on the desktop, which is filled with music. Click "OK," and then iTunes transfers the music. ITunes automatically organizes the music into the appropriate folders and corrects the scrambled file names when the transfer is complete.

9. Remove the "Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives" option, and the "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized," if desired.

Transferring To a Mac

10. Double-click on the iTunes icon to launch iTunes. Click on "General," and then on "Preferences." Uncheck or disable the auto-sync option. Click "OK," and close iTunes.

11. Plug the iPod into the computer with the sync cable.

12. Double-click on the iTunes icon to again launch iTunes.

13. Click on the iPod icon in iTunes. A new window appears. Click on the iPod icon at the bottom of the screen. A configuration window appears. Uncheck the "Automatically Update All Songs and Playlists," and the "Automatically Update Selected Playlists Only" options. Check the "Manually Manage Songs and Playlists" option. Close the configuration window.

14. Return to the iTunes window. ITunes lists the iPod songs. Click on "Edit," then "Select All," and drag them to the "Library" icon. ITunes copies the songs on the iPod to the iTunes library.

15. Open the iTunes configuration window by following Step 3, and re-enable the auto-sync option, if desired.
