Thanksgiving Costume Ideas

Dress up as an Native American for a Thanksgiving.

Dressing up in costumes for Thanksgiving is not traditional for many people. However, costumes can make any holiday more fun for children. Schools and community centers sometimes put on plays for Thanksgiving, which can also require a costume. Whatever the reason you are dressing up, there are plenty of costumes that would be perfect for Thanksgiving.

Native American

Create a Native American costume for a Thanksgiving celebration. Wear brown leggings and a brown T-shirt and make a vest or a tunic using a large paper sack, scissors and paint. You can also make a headdress using a band made of cardboard with feathers glued onto it.

Pilgrim

Another Thanksgiving costume idea is a pilgrim. Men can wear a black suit with a large white collar made of white fabric. Complete the look with a top hat. For girls, wear a simple, long-sleeved black dress with a white apron and a white bonnet.

Turkey

The turkey plays a major role in any Thanksgiving celebration, so create a turkey costume for a Thanksgiving play or event. Simply wear a pair of brown leggings or sweat pants or a brown T-shirt as the base of the costume. Create a large, rounded set of tail feathers by cutting the shape out of cardboard and attaching it to the back of a belt you can wrap around your waist.

Pumpkin

While pumpkins are used for decoration around Halloween, they are also common at Thanksgiving--pumpkin pie is a popular dessert. Create a pumpkin costume using two large pieces of orange fabric that are sewn together, leaving space for your head, arms and legs. Stuff the fabric with pillow stuffing until it is round. Wear an orange sweat suit underneath the pumpkin suit.
