Shoot A Bow By Having An Index Feather

The colored index feather helps archers place the arrow correctly.

An index feather is part of the fletching of an arrow. Arrow fletching traditionally consists of three feathers glued or tied to the arrow; the feathers stabilize its flight. The index feather is typically dyed or colored differently than the other feathers on the arrow. This feather tells the archer nock the arrow onto the bow for the optimum release and flight, increasing the accuracy of the archer's shot.

Instructions

1. Stand perpendicular to the shooting line. The arm holding the bow must face the target.

2. Grasp the arrow, and determine which feather is the index feather.

3. Nock the arrow on the bow, index feather turned outward. Seat the groove in the arrow in the bow string. Grip the arrow lightly between the second and third fingers.

4. Raise the bow and draw the bowstring, being careful not to pinch the arrow. Take aim at the target.

5. Release the bowstring, letting the arrow fly to the target.
